The Township of Alice Springs, Australia       
            

Situated at the heart of Australia – its geographic centre. Its history began in the early 1870’s as a Telegraph Station for the overland telegraph line which ran the complete length of the Australian continent.  This modern and diverse town offers a strong insight into Outback history and Aboriginal culture. There is no town like Alice!

Adelaide House Museum             

 

 

Situated in the Todd Mall, it was the first hospital in Alice Springs and designed by Reverend John Flynn. This museum is dedicated to the mission and pioneering days in Alice Springs and houses memorabilia and photos from this time.

Alice Springs Cultural Precinct

Holding some of the most interesting cultural and historical experiences in Alice Springs, Australia. With seven registered Aboriginal sacred sites and trees of significance, the Precinct is an essential part of any visit to Central Australia. Attractions include: the Araluen Arts Centre, the Albert Namatjira Gallery, the Central Australian Aviation Museum, Yeperenyne sculpture, the Museum of Central Australia, the Strehlow Research Centre and Territory Craft.   

Alice Springs Desert Park

This unique tourist attraction contains native animals and plants representative of Central Australian desert environments, and contributes to their conservation through research programs as well as through public education. It offers people the opportunity to experience the variety of the deserts of central Australia, exploring the inter-relationships between the plants, animals and people.

Alice Springs School of the Air             

This iconic Outback school provides an important education resource to children living in remote Central Australia; at the time it began in 1951 it was the only one of its kind in the world. Enjoy a presentation about the history and operation of the school and take a virtual journey of education in outback Australia from the beginning to today.

Alice Springs Telegraph Station

The Telegraph Station marks the original site of the first European settlement in Alice Springs, Australia and was established in the early 1870’s to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide. The town of Alice Springs takes its name from the waterhole nearby to the Station.

Royal Flying Doctor Service

The Reverend John Flynn established the Royal Flying Doctor Service in 1928 to provide emergency and anticipatory medicine to remote communities and stations throughout Central Australia.  Take a tour and visit the museums.
