Aurora Hotels–Resorts–Attractions announces the launch of Kangaroo Island’s first world class Function Centre
Aurora launched it’s brand new Aurora Ozone Hotel Function Centre at Kingscote on Kangaroo Island on 28th January 2010.
The $2 million function centre was opened by the Honourable Dr Jane Lomax-Smith, South Australian Minister for Tourism at an invitation-only event hosted at the hotel.
The new centre consists of three rooms that can be used singly for smaller events, or linked by state-of-the-art screens and speakers so that up to 150 can attend a conference or function.
Addressing the gathering Dr Lomax-Smith congratulated the Aurora Group on the initiative stating that project demonstrates “incredible foresight in strengthening Kangaroo Island as a wonderful destination for the meetings and conferences market.”
She added “This facility opens up Kangaroo Island to yet another group of travellers, meeting and conference delegates. And I understand that the Aurora Ozone management is already working with local operators to integrate touring of the island into its conference and function packages.
The Aurora Ozone Hotel was acquired by Aurora in September 2008 and the new function centre represents the first stage of development of the property. Future stages will include a decked beer garden integrated with a pool and gymnasium with plans for an additional 40 new hotel rooms having been drawn up.
Ian Drummond, Executive Chairman of Aurora, said “This function centre is designed to tap into the huge number of South Australians who haven’t been to Kangaroo Island but desire to go at some point in the future. The centre will provide a reason for South Australians to come to Kangaroo Island for meetings, conferences, events and functions including weddings. The planned 40 new 4 star hotel rooms will take advantage of the enormous awareness of Kangaroo Island from international visitors.”
“Kangaroo Island bobs up as 4th among the desired destinations for international visitors which puts Kangaroo Island in the big league alongside the Barrier Reef, Uluru and the Sydney Opera House” he said.
Aurora also owns and operates hotels and tourist parks in the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, Alice Springs and Darwin.
